Diving into December with #GivingTuesday Donations

Black Friday. Cyber Monday. And what we consider to be the most important, #GivingTuesday. On Tuesday, December 2, charities, families, business, community centers and students around the world came together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. Giving Tuesday is largely driven by social media and online giving campaigns. Over the day, more than 698,000 tweets mentioning the #GivingTuesday hashtag were shared.

According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, the amount of cash raised increased 64 percent over 2013. Nonprofits recorded raising $46 million in connection with the Giving Tuesday event. Our partner charities Special Olympics Chicago and Advocate Childrens Hospital received a great amount of support on their social media pages during the event. We appreciate anyone who donated to our organization on such a special day!

Giving Tuesday was created when two organizations, the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation came together in 2012. Their intention was to set aside a day that was all about celebrating the generosity of giving. It is now organized an celebrated each year with the simple aim of encouraging individuals, families schools, businesses and others to give to the less fortunate.

So mark your calendars for December 1, 2015 to make it an even more successful #GivingTuesday
